Natural Gas, Oil, Minerals Q&A Answers

ARE LARGER UNITS REALLY NECESSARY WITH THE INCREASING LENGTH OF LATERALS LATELY?
By: ruby_99 | 2010-02-16 12:54:35
Only if you want the operator to save money and delay royalties to the landowner. 7000' lateral length x 500' spacing divided by 43560 sf/acre = 80 acres from one well. That means eight wells will fit nicely into a normal unit of 640 acres. If the operator wants to be timid and go with 750' spacing, six wells with 121 acres each make a unit of 723 acres. What's the problem with that? Oh, right, that would mean more wells are necessary to hold leases by production.
